It was supposed to be a simple doodle but it took me longer than it should have because I truly have no workflow and did not plan for the composition properly (as I usually do)... I kept on messing the coloring up, too.

I was pretty happy with how it came out, though! I don't draw chibi very often, AND I find it very hard to draw male characters with short hair because of how precise it has to be compared to long hair. Yay for creating things that make us happy <3

I'm thinking of uploading my stuff onto Pixiv. I also considered backing up my old art from dA onto Pixiv, but I'd have to painstakingly upload them in order since there's no backdate option haha.

The piece is based on this screencap from the Spinnin' on It MV:

I used the 3D models on Clip Paint Studio to replicate the pose and then altered the angle, but ended up settling on what's literally just the opposite view of the original pose.

It's also rare for me to do backgrounds, but I pushed through here because it would have felt weird if they were just floating on a blank background (lol). I remember being very impressed when I painted that wall and it looked so wall-like. It's like seeing the secrets of the universe (it's just the default gouache brush on CSP). 

I wanted to include a second poster in the background as an Easter Egg, but the clutter would have detracted from the main subjects even more.

The poster is a parody of Chappell Roan (The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess), one of the sapphic legends of this century. The beads on the right are supposed to be Marianne and Hilda's colors (blue and pink), and the yellow is the Golden Deer's.

I originally wanted to create a fic based on the song Blue Valentine by the same artist, but after multiple iterations, I simply could not do anything as angsty as what I had in mind. I think it would have been lovely to publish them as a "set", but it was not meant to be.

When I pivoted to a fluffier approach, I found that the words flowed easier than before. The resulting fic is a modern AU set in Valentine's, a play on Hilda's second name: Hilda Valentine.

It's on the shorter end, and the ending might have been a bit rushed, but it's purely self-indulgent and there is virtually no plot besides the fact that they're married and love each other.

Also, one of the more important (/s) details in the fic is that they have a cat named Buns. His name is based on one of their favorite food in-game, the Sweet Bun Trio.
