As promised, here is my reaction post for the fourth My Hero Academia movie, subtitled: "You're Next". I watched it on the same day I watched World Heroes Mission, but I needed to make this its own post because I had too many things to say for WHM. 😅

Obvious spoilers for My Hero Academia: You're Next and the entire main series (up to Season 8/Episode 170).

In bullet points...

Lmao, I thought the guy at the start was AFO because of the voice. But nope, this is our first glimpse at the story's antagonist, the guy who would go around impersonating All Might.
I dunno if it's cuz I watched Black Butler as a kid, but I super dig Giulio's character, from his design to his mannerisms.
This movie takes place after Deku vs. Class A, so he's super goated now with all of his Quirks, and this is quite possibly his peak form. I can't believe they were still able to find time to do some rescuing and fighting right before the final war/battle.
I really love this shot for some inexplicable reason.
The opening song is Homonculus by Vaundy. I need y'all to know I love Vaundy. And still, I did not know he did BOTH the opening and ending for You're Next. The universe has conspired to bring me back full circle.
Bakugo bragging about his team's 4 captures vs. Deku's 3, then getting angry when Todoroki reports a higher number lmaooo he's so competitive 😭 Anyway, I will be taking these tdbkdk crumbs, thank yew.
Ohhhh I immediately dislike this fake All Might, lol. Booing him out of the theater right now 😭 Honestly I also did not like most of the villains that much, except for the lady with the big hat.
The way he distorts All Might's lines are so infuriating. From how AM says "watashi ga kita" (I am here!) but he says "ore" instead of "watashi", to delusionally thinking he's the rightful successor after watching the Kamino clip... oooooh he grinds my gears. Don't be parasocial, y'all!
Cementoss is NOT buying this man's shit.
The concept of robots driving the kids around is funny. The concept of these driver robots talking back is funnier.
- Bakugo: Turn around!!! Make a U-turn!!!
- Driver robot: Don't be stupid, human!!
Love this scene of Deku falling down the hole, and he's like, "My crotch!!!"
Again, really love Giulio's speech pattern and I kind of wish he kept it through the movie, where he says stuff like, 「まったく…使えないガキ様でいらっしゃる… mattaku... tsukaenai gaki-sama de irassharu」where he's being rude AND polite at the same time 🤣 It kinda reads like, "My... what a useless child."
- He also tells Deku to "go die somewhere"; new vocabulary learned: 「のたれ死んで下さい。 notare shinde kudasai」where the base form 「のたれ死ぬ notare shinu」means "to die a dog's death."
The scene where the lady with the hat uses her Quirk on Todoroki's team
- Of course Mineta and Kaminari dream of hot girls...
- Todoroki's dream hurt me so bad omg. He dreams of being home with his siblings (including Touya-nii!!), playing in their backyard. He even has Endeavor in his own dream, expressing a desire to still want to include him as part of the family.
- No idea what Yaomomo's dream is supposed to be. She wants to drink tea??? Honestly uncreative on the team's part, lol...
- TENYA AND TENSEIIIII— Double Ingenium!!! At least Iida kind of realizes his dream later on...
- Tsuyu's dream is to croak under the rain with her family? Okay... again, a bit uncreative, but not as bad as Momo's, at least...
- Shoji with the girl he saved...! He is so precious to me.

I sincerely thought Dark Might would rip Paulo's arms before dropping him into the hole. That would have been so much better, imo. Also Paulo's sweating and crying had so many frames, more than OPM S3 (my partner and I constantly make this joke throughout the movie).
YOICHI JUMPSCARE in Deku's "dream world". My partner called it, he was like, "They can't put Deku under her Quirk because OFA would block it." I love Yoichi, man.
Love how Ojiro (and everyone else) just lies there while Giulio is having his angsty moment.
Lemillion jumpscare!!! I forgot that he got his powers back in Season 6, I thought its return was revealed in the Final War arc, so I was surprised.
Giulio hugging Anna as her Quirk went berserk, realizing he was actually compatible with her Quirk, and regaining the ability to neutralize her using the rest of his body was another thing my partner called before the actual scene. I think being able to pick up on foreshadowing and actually having that pay off is really fun, despite how some people think plot twists being "predictable" are boring.
From the Todobaku team up, to the Origin Trio fighting Dark Might...! The battle scenes were very flashy, and I didn't even expect the boss to have like, a Phase 3 at the end because Deku screaming all of the state names he knows already seemed decisive.
- The fight started getting so explosive that the frames turned into abstract art. Like, what is this frame? I don't know. We'll put it in here, anyway.
Inko needs lifetime therapy, she's always bawling her eyes out whenever she sees Deku get hurt (totally understandable!!!) That's her BABY!!! (Also omg look at Mitsuki <3 Ugh the MHA moms are so cute)
YESSSS omg what a beautiful moment <3 I do like their dynamic, honestly. I'm a sucker for these kinds of ships (whether platonic or romantic), like royal-retainer, or lady-butler, what-have-you. When they realize they're no longer bound by their stations, and that they're just Anna and Giulio.
Deku with the goddamn mosquito bite on his cheek that never went away... 😭 (I don't even remember how he got that, it just looks like a mosquito bite to me)
Gift by Vaundy as the ending song!!! I heard this movie has a post-credit scene so I happily waited til the end since I loved the music anyway.
- Never mind, it was nothing. Everyone pack up, time to go home. (/j) The post credit scene was just Shigaraki in the cave opening his eyes haha when I check the dates of when the movie was released vs. the ongoing Season 7 at that time, it didn't really make sense from a "whoaaa" perspective since the viewers should already know that Shigaraki was awake and battling.

Overall thoughts

I liked this movie, but if I were to rate all four movies from 1 (highest) to 4 (lowest), You're Next would be in 3rd place solely because I hate Dark Might so much, lmao. I do love Anna's story, and I love seeing the more grown up (this makes no sense considering everything happened in like a year) 1-A, but like... Dark Might's gotta go, man. Lol.

I find it funny that his "descent to villainy" was very similar to Chisaki's, where the mafia/yakuza boss tells them to not stray from their path or fall into darkness, but they go ahead and do it anyway.

No Aoyama in this movie breaks my heart, but it is because he was captured following his traitor reveal. I missed him.

I guess the only thing I have on my mind now is: was Koda able to use his Quirk inside the illusory structure? 💀

This post is probably less entertaining compared to my other ones, but in my defense, that's also how my reaction thread on Twitter went where I literally stopped reacting after Yaomomo's tea dream because too many things were happening and I needed to keep my attention on the screen.
